Liz Torbenson, MA, LPC

Welcome! I’m Liz Torbenson, a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of SoulRise Counseling. I’m passionate about helping individuals find hope, healing, and balance as they navigate life’s challenges—especially those connected to grief, loss, and identity.
I earned my Master’s in Counseling from Lakeland University in Wisconsin in 2016. After working in the school setting for several years, I felt called to deepen my impact within the community and earned my professional counseling licensure in 2022. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with teens, adults, and couples across a variety of settings, supporting them through both expected and unexpected life transitions.
While I work with a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and eating disorders, my work is deeply rooted in grief and loss—both the visible and the often unrecognized forms of it.
Grief is not always tied to death. It can emerge through relationship changes, identity shifts, life transitions, or the loss of a version of life you once knew. These experiences can feel confusing, isolating, and difficult to name.
My approach to grief is grounded in a framework I developed through both clinical work and lived experience: The Three Movements of Healing Through Grief™. This model understands grief as a non-linear process of:
• Recognizing what has changed
• Reconstructing your sense of identity
• Reconnecting with meaning and hope
This framework is the foundation of my book, When Love Remains: A Guide to Navigating Grief, Rebuilding Identity, and Finding Meaning After Loss, as well as a companion workbook designed to help individuals actively move through these experiences in their everyday lives.
In our work together, I integrate approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy to create a space that is both supportive and practical. My goal is not to “fix” grief, but to help you understand it, process it, and learn how to carry it in a way that allows you to continue growing.
Whether you are navigating a profound loss, feeling stuck in a life transition, struggling with anxiety, or trying to reconnect with yourself, you don’t have to do it alone.
My hope is to walk alongside you with compassion—helping you make sense of your experience, rebuild trust in yourself, and move toward a life that feels more grounded, meaningful, and aligned.
SoulRise Counseling was created as a space rooted in authenticity, compassion, and the belief that even through loss, growth is possible.
I’m honored to be a part of your journey.

My Telehealth Services
Grief and Identity Loss
Grief can reshape not only what we’ve lost, but how we see ourselves. I provide support through a clinically grounded, non-linear approach that helps individuals recognize what has changed, reconstruct their sense of identity, and reconnect with meaning and hope as they navigate both profound and everyday losses.
Relationship
Relationship counseling helps partners, family members, friends, and/or peers overcome difficulties in their relationship by enhancing communication skills and resolving conflicts effectively.
Anxiety
I provide specialized support for managing anxiety using techniques like
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients develop coping strategies.
Eating
My experience working with eating disorders supports clients in exploring the emotional and psychological aspects of their relationship with food, promoting healthier attitudes and behaviors.
Faith
Life can be challenging, but we don't have to navigate it alone. Christian counseling offers a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your struggles and find hope anchored in Christ. It provides support while framing life's difficulties within a redemptive, Scripture-guided narrative.
Depression
Depression counseling focuses on understanding the underlying issues and developing personalized strategies to foster resilience and improve overall well-being.
